おはようございます!!

By Jenn Wong in travel

spent the mid-autumn festival long weekend in tokyo with pals adrian, sammy, maromi & john, so amazing! not surprisingly, all we did was eat, shop and drink. fantastic! photos as follows:

+++ drunken salary man at 4am in shibuya – yes, loads of people were taking photos! for some reason, i remembered a tiny bit of japanese that my (korean) grandmother used to say to her friends and i walked up to this man and knelt down and shouted ‘genki deska?!!’ in his ear. after a bit of groaning, he eventually sat up and rubbed his face. i hope he got home ok?
+++ possibly the only foreign taxi driver in the city – he came to tokyo as a 14 year old refugee from afghanistan and hasn’t left since, quite amazing. we asked him whether he’d ever seen another foreign taxi driver and he told us, of course not!
+++ the best tonkatsu i’ve ever had – thanks mai-sen! we loved it so much that we picked up a few tonkatsu sandwhiches for our flight back, so delicious!
+++ oh, kaikaya by the sea! unbelievable everything, love love love.

more to come, have a great weekend! <3

LOSING MY EDGE…

By Jenn Wong in uncategorized

Interview from NYMag: “And people are like, “But is Tavi the average American girl or not?” But there are some things that are just universal amongst teenage girls, and I don’t mean, like, slumber parties. I mean something like when you first start noticing other people noticing your body, that is a weird experience and is part of every culture somehow. I also don’t think the average American teenage girl really exists, I just think that there are shared qualities and experiences.

CONGRATS!

Tourist in Your Town

By Jenn Wong in shanghai

we have guests in from the states this week and it’s been lovely exploring the city with them and showing them our favourite places. last sunday proved to be excellent weather and blue skies for the first time in lord knows how long, so we took advantage and headed out to moganshan lu and up up up high to the shanghai world financial center.

a couple of pictures from the day, it was actually my first time going up to the SWFC, i’d only ever gone to the bar before so it was quite the treat. very impressed by how efficient and orderly everything is, a definite improvement from the usual horrible chinese tourist traps. also, the gift shop had some surprisingly awesome, i picked up a couple decks of cards as well as really nicely designed beijing and shanghai subway maps from beijing based design shop paper space. winning!!!

WOMEN’S DAY

By Jenn Wong in people

posting some photos of beautiful lady friends of mine (from the Pete Rock show last weekend) seems appropriate today. celebrated women’s day by taking the day off (in China, you get the day off if you’re a lady!) and drinking bloody marys on a patio in the sun. had an amazing meal at the Puli and topped off the night with a drink at el Coctel. lovely lovely lovely, happy women’s day to all. xo
