TOTALLY OVERDOING IT.

parties — Jenn Wong @ 2:52 am

two photos from this weekend, courtesy of friend sean. i’m way too tired and ill to post any photos of my own, this past week has been TOOO crazy.

as a run off – wednesday, we had drinks with former boss jason for his belated w+k shanghai send off party, which lasted until very late and involved alot of very tasty whiskeys. the next night i DJ’d our monthly TEENAGEKICKS party at shelter, where we got especially rowdy on account of it being sacco’s birthday. for some reason, the fact that jake newby dropped by seemed to elevate it to dancing around like crazy levels.

on friday, we had a big going away dinner and drinks thing in honour of my dear friend aaron, who is going back home to the states and putting himself back into school to fulfill a life long dream of becoming a doctor and finally, on saturday, i went to my friend kira’s bachelorette party, which lasted until the wee wee morning hours of sunday (i was made to wear a tiara) and then i got home and slept and slept and slept.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh i am in pain. i was suffering from a mild flu last week when i got back (thanks, jetlag!), and i’ve basically recovered, save for a raspy, terrible cough. i’m hoping it doesn’t turn into anything more, and in an effort to stave off more illness, i have decided that this week i will be at home every day after work, i will go to bed early, i will doing nothing at all that involves being awake past 10pm.

ps. and by nothing, i mean playing farmville, which my boyfriend mistakenly introduced me to and which now i am obsessed with. be quiet, and don’t you judge me.

pps. hey, shanghaiist gave me a big up in one of their posts today, thanks guys! xx

MONSTER WEEKEND.

brands, events, parties, people, photography — Jenn Wong @ 12:52 am

this time of year is always filled with chinese new year celebrations, everyone’s having some kind of party and the weekends are a madhouse of bopping around and indulging in too much. on friday, we dropped by the Nike Year of the Tiger Cortez release party, with a performance by PET CONSPIRACY, a puppet show and more. afterwards, we hit up rodney and natasha’s Central Studios CNY bash and then stumbled over to shelter to see KIDFRESH play bananas. his music was a-maaazing, peep his blog HERE.

on saturday, i went to the jellymon cny dinner, they held it at this amazing private kitchen in XJH, one of the best chinese meals i’ve ever had, and not only was the food fantastic, but the jellymon family are such warm, funny, wonderful people – it’s so great to see a fresh creative agency with young, amazing talent. sitting down to dinner with all of them really made my evening, i’m really looking forward to seeing what great things they come up with in 2010.

also on saturday, john robinson’s house party! i’ve uploaded a flickr set here and that’s about all i’m going to say. if you’re looking for photos from my personal collection of that evening, just email me! rooahhaa.

some really great images from the SHANGHAI ALLEYCAT RACE this weekend courtesy of their FLICKRpool (the bottom two photos taken by my w+k mate leal).

was a really fun weekend and adrian & i managed to get massively trashed whilst fake dj’ing club anthems and hip hop tunes alike. next time, think we’ll have to cut the sound of the mic before allowing adrian anywhere near it… just sayin’. drunk asian boys and microphones don’t mix.

POST-HALLOWEEN POST

parties — Jenn Wong @ 4:28 am

halloween this year was a very fun weekend, with a big Wieden+Kennedy rooftop party (more photos soon!) on friday and then a trip out to a water town about 40 minutes out of Shanghai on saturday.

one of the best things about living in Shanghai is the abundance of tiny little water towns on the outskirts of the city – they’re cheap, and you can ride boats down canals to the bar of your choice.

too sleepy on a monday to write anything else, so come back tomorrow how about?! xx

RODNEY EVANS: POSTCARD

events, parties, photography — Jenn Wong @ 1:52 am

very much looking forward to my friend rodney’s solo exhibition this week. if you’re in town, please come on by!

(from the site:)
明信片 postcard: A Rodney Evans solo exhibition

Postcard is an album of Rodney Evans’ travel shots that comprise four years of shooting in China and has evolved over two series of work – ‘Tourrorist’ and ‘Park Stories’. Since arriving in China in 2005, the Shanghai based photographer has spent his spare time traveling through provincial China documenting the way in which Chinese spend their leisure time.

Fascinated with Chinese vacationers who prefer to capture themselves in-front of the monumental view rather then the view itself, ‘Tourrorist’ began as documentary but evolved into a more considered study of portraits set in popular leisure destinations. Motivated by the inability to isolate a frame without people, Evans turned his camera on the tourists, encapsulating them in their environment.

55DSL x DIPLO x STEVE AOKI

brands, events, parties, people, shanghai — Jenn Wong @ 4:36 am

sam’s brother + friend Josh got into town on Friday, and to celebrate, we headed out to a banquet dinner at southern barbarian where everyone stuffed their faces with yunnan food, the braver of us sampling a dish of deep fried bees (”bees?! BEADS. bees?! job’s not on board” aharharhar). afterwards, we walked for ages trying to find a cab, and instead ended up seeking refuge at the garden hotel, where we were treated to a view of the city, and bizarre, mid-90s-esque lounge singing sung by a Real Live lounge singer. from there, we walked (WALKED! shanghai, whaddup w/your lack of cabs?) to park 97 for the diesel party, another terrible brand party saved only by the fact that diplo + steve aoki were dj’ing. good music, douchey people, late nights. thanks, shanghai! xx. (ps. photo above by kidplastik).
