picked up ludacris & entourage at the airport, all access passes, glorious blue sky (and windy) day, beautiful crowds and an all around fantastic event. VERY embarrassing situation with the 30 seconds to mars tent, accidentally asked for jordan catelan… i mean, jared leto. no one was happy.

the fantastic people at SPLITWORKS have done it again! Another weekend, another Nike extravaganza! Nike celebrated the NBA All-Star weekend by launching their 6 minute Black Mamba video, directed by Robert Rodriguez and starring Danny Trejo, Kanye West, Bruce Willis, Kobe Bryant and Rodriguez himself. You can watch the full length video (by W+K Portland) here, I can only imagine how ridiculously fun it must have been to film. It was great to see everyone out & enjoying themselves, the party was full of dizzying lights, full size basketball court, scantily clad ring girls and an appearance by the Nike China High School Basketball league.

A job well done and congrats to the W+K and Nike families.

the year of the tiger officially comes to a close in a few days & i’m looking forward to ringing in the year of the rabbit in india!! i’ve been too lazy to take real photos lately, so instead you’ll have to do with these instagram updates, the highlight being that we got our india visas! another highlight was that on thursday, 2K Games China celebrated five years with a massive dinner banquet, complete with a few hours of skits, singing, dancing and the usual… the usual also included sharks fin soup (sad face!).

on friday, john & i went out for dinner at shintori – even though the pictured red bean cheesecake was tasty, the rest of the meal was more like shintorDONT. what else? oh yeah, cats in bowties, cats sitting looking cute, cats sleeping on my foot. happy chinese new years, guys!

my camera ran out of steam this weekend so i barely managed any photos — we went to the tongchuan seafood market for a delicious feast of stone & dungeness crab, and this time we wised up and brought our own wine. so delicious! also, some friends and i checked out the newly opened moules, which is supposedly french owned but very obviously decorated by a chinese nouveau tai tai’s eye (read: super tacky decor). the mussels (pictured above) were really great though, fresh, plump and delicious, and for only 150rmb per pot (massive pots), it’s a pretty good deal. however, the lobster bisque was not delicious, unless your idea of delicous is lobster flavoured water?

Big congratulations & happy 1 year anniversary to the team at Central Studios! We attended the birthday bash with high expectations — Central has gained a reputation over the last year of not only being an ace photography and production studio but also an amazing host of amazing parties, and this anniversary celebration was no exception. They went with a circus theme, complete with acrobatics, circus ring, pop corn vendour, face painting station & hot dog stand, not to mention three full service bars to ensure that none of their guests went thirsty. The music was fantastic, the decor was incredible and the whole thing went down without a hitch. Congratulations again to Rodney, Natasha et all, looking forward to all you guys accomplish in 2011.

Nike Sportswear China threw an amazing bash over the weekend to celebrate the launch of their latest campaign, Destroy To Create. tunes were provided by one half of the creative duo Kitsuné, and the entire warehouse space was transformed into a literal playground of destruction and creation. check out the Freshness Mag event recap, and also peep a video of the specially created tap nudemen DESTROYER EDITION iPad game created by awesome possum Francis Lam. big props to the Nike China team for a job well done!

stopped by The Source on friday for the first screening of Shanghai 5, a new skate film chronicling the shanghai skate community by french filmmaker and shanghai skate kid Charles Lanceplaine. turnout was fantastic, and there were many prizes & fun to be had – really great to see such a warm community of makers and doers. check out this this vimeo page for more from charles. xx
