took a couple hours out of the office and headed to luwan stadium for an afternoon with nike + lebron james. chinese kids did drills, played a couple of games, LBJ got on the court and performed some amazing mooooves. how depressing is it that the dude is only 24?! auggggh.

my dear friends at THE SOURCE have finally gotten round to opening a beijing store! about 20 of us will be hiring a train carriage and chugging down the rails from shanghai to beijing. very very excited and it’ll probably get ridiculous.
if you’re in town, the party is SEPT 4th and there will be live music from bigger bang and beijing life experience, and dj tooons spun by lomang (beijing zoo/wutang clan), liman and many others. there will also be a streetwear fashion show, exhibition and live art from tim biskup (LA), alister lee (CND), and JELLYMON. come on down and have fun! this weekend was alot of fun! lots of parties + video games + good eats + bikerides + goodness. i dj’d a 90s party called teenagekicks at logo on saturday, things got very ridiculous and it was a long bikeride home. check out my flickr page for more photos maybe, right now i’m tooooo lazy to post them. oh monday you are fucking killing me.

in continuing with the crazy cat lady/awesome theme, my friend bryan and kitten buster are getting along real well. look closely at the second photo, ‘cos buster’s head is ACTUALLY in bryan’s mouth. ewwwwwfuzz.

there’s a great 9 page article on annie leibovitz up on NYMAG right now, and reading it is utterly heartbreaking. i’ve always had a bit of a love/hate relationship with annie leibovitz, she seems like the kind of photographer who’s fame has been built on circumstance and luck, not skill. i find her early work remarkable only because of it’s subjects, and in the last decade, her unbelievably elaborate set ups make me think that it would be impossible NOT to take a good photograph in those circumstances.
still, what an amazing life! and to be able to have lofty celebrities let down their guards down long enough to take that one photo, it’s incredible. she seems like someone you would want to know – her relationship with susan sontag is so bizarre to me – the brilliant, cold essayist and the ultimate pop photographer, her bizarre spending habits, that crazy inability to keep her finances in order.
someone sent me a copy of her book annie leibovitz: at work earlier this year, and it’s a really fascinating read – detailed stories accompanying each photo. flying back from an overseas trip last year, there was a documentary playing on the virgin airlines channel documenting the process of her putting it together, it was pretty amazing to see how involved she got in every single detail. i do think it’s so sad, reading about her life, all these stories published and written as though she’s already dead. hm.

i got hit with a very bad flu/cold last week and am still sniffling through it. took friday off, and spent the weekend sleeping loads and making lemon and ginger tea. i went to the hospital yesterday for a check up and came back with a BAG of medicine with crazy packaging, chinese doctors are nuts!
i’ve been back at the office since monday, but everything is very woozy and i swear these pills must have ephedrine in them or something because EVERYTHING IS OFF.
speaking of OFF – there was an earthquake in taiwan yesterday and apparently some underwater internet cables were damaged (AGAIN) and now our internet is totally fucked. succcccccccccks.
something that doesn’t suck is that john finally revamped his website and now it’s a lovely photosite updated daily with snapshots. go look!
